The Headmaster of Eagles Secondary School

Mwalimu Abbas S Chembere. Mwalimu Chembere (59) has been Headmaster of Eagles Secondary School since November 2009. A veteran of Tanzania's education system., Mr Chembere brings vision and leadership that spans across the broad spectrum: Government and private schools; Dar es Salaam and "provincial" schools; mainline schools to teacher training colleges; ordinary level to advanced level. Following initial teacher training at Chang'ombe TTC in 1969, he began his career at Kingosera Secondary School in Ruvuma, where he taught for 3 years. He was rapidly promoted to District Education Officer, serving for 7 years in Kondoa and Njombe districts. He joined the University of Dar es Salaam in 1979, graduating B.Sc. (Education) with honours in mathematics and physics 3 years later. Upon graduation, he was posted to Klerruu Teachers Training College in Iringa, working as tutor and academic master for 1 year before being appointed in 1983 as Headmaster of Mtwango Secondary School in Njombe, where he served for 3 years.

With these excellent credentials, Mwalimu Chembere was quickly headhunted by the private sector that began to boom roundabout this time. He joined Al-Muntazir Islamic Secondary School in 1987 on a 2-year contract, after which he joined HH Aga Khan Mzizima Secondary School in 1989 as teacher and head of mathematics. He worked at Mzizima 19 years and it was during this critical phase of his career that Mzizima High School (through the Aga Khan Education Service) was transformed into probably the premier school not only in Tanzania but in the whole of East Africa. In an interlude, Mwalimu Chembere went to Pakistan and took his M.Ed. degree and worked also as Second Master at Mzizima and later as Education Officer for the entire Aga Khan Education Service in Tanzania.

During a distinguished career, Mwalimu Chembere has attended numerous seminars in education management, teacher training and curriculum development in Kampala, Karachi, Nairobi, London, Geneva and locally. Before joining Eagles, Mwalimu Chembere worked for 4 years as the founding Headmaster at Alpha High School.
