Former Education Minister, Dr Shukuru Kawambwa issued three awards, two golden trophies and certificate of commendation, to the school as the Best Performing School for the year 2013 and Best Performing School for Non Government Schools for the year 2014.

The School Manager, Mr Francis Tabaro, said in a statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the District Education Officer, Ms Eliza Ngonyani, handed over the two awards to the school management on behalf of Dr Kawambwa, at a colourful function held in the city two weeks ago.

One of the awards reads, "The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training proudly awards Eagles Secondary School for being one of the best performing Non Government Schools in the 2014 Certificate of Secondary Examination results."

It further reads, "The Ministry commends efforts of the entire school community in ensuring delivery of quality education." The 2014 results shows that the school scored 18 Division One, 26 Division Two, 48 Division Three and Two scores for Division Four.

"NECTA's 2013 results confirm the firm path that Eagles Secondary School has taken towards national excellence. With a GPA score of 2.1503, Eagles was ranked 30th, out of 3256 in the country and third out of 105 in Pwani Region," the statement reads.

The boarding school for boys only that covers the syllabus for Form One to Form IV, which is situated at Bagamoyo area, was ranked just behind Marian Boys and Girls at One and Two, respectively, ahead of Kibaha and Baobab, which ranked fourth and fifth. Closer scrutiny of such results shows that out of the top 10 Schools, six of them are girls' schools, serving a different market.

Two golden trophies for Eagles Secondary School

In the top 10, there are five girls' schools again. Without looking into the next top 10, Eagles becomes number 19 for boys' secondary schools. Eagles was ahead of such celebrated boys' secondary schools as Tabora Boys (at 56); Kibaha (at 44); Ilboru (at 41); Mzumbe (at 40).

It was also ahead of such long-established names as St Matthew's (at 153); Loyola (at 59); St Anthony (at 131) and Mbezi Beach (at 182), to mention but a handful.

"Since most of the top schools outside the above list are actually the single purpose, dedicated Seminaries, it is fair to deduce that Eagles is now probably in the top 10 in Boys' secondary education in Tanzania already," reads a section of the statement. The school was established in 2006 and is set to celebrate its first 10 years of existence next year.
