Staff members from Eagles Secondary School in collaboration with Kawe Jogging Social Club, participated in the 5th Bagamoyo Historical Marathon, which was held on Sunday, 29th July 2018. Their participation in this event is part of their school's efforts to compliment government efforts in promoting sports and tourism in the country for the development of Bagamoyo town and for the benefit of the people of Tanzania at large.

Tanzania’s Failuna Abdi put up a spirited fight to win the women’s half marathon (21km) at the 2018 Bagamoyo Historical Marathon. Running in sunny conditions and rising temperatures, Abdi came from behind to snatch the top honour in the closely-contested race in 1:16:21, holding off Kenyan Shelmitu Muriua by one minute and 15 seconds in the final five kilometres.
The guest of honour at the race, the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon Hamisi Kigwangalla urged relevant authorities to use the race to promote tourism in the country.

Other important figures in Sports, who attended this marathon – drawing over a thousand runners, most of them from East and Central Africa -- were the Athletics Tanzania (AT) deputy secretary general, Ombeni Zavalla.
 
For his part, the coordinator of Bagamoyo Marathon, Deogratius Soka, said: “This event is meant to drive sports enthusiasts to this part of the country, which has the unexplored tourism attractions.”

This annual Marathon event takes place in Bagamoyo town, where Eagles Secondary School is also situates, mainly due to its calmness, low traffic, historic value and tourist attractions. Indeed, Bagamoyo town is rich in Tanzania history and it is now about to become the hub of Tanzania economy due to vast potential and many new projects in the area.
